These are strange times…

I think no one ever really expects that they are living through a historic moment. History is something we study at school, but it’s not now. Except that now, it is.

This is a historic moment we are living through. It will be interesting to see how we will come out of this. What will change. Will we stop shaking hands? Will our resourcefulness mount to something useful? Will we be better prepared for another future pandemic?

I have no idea, time will tell.

One thing that’s been challenging is having very little income during these times. We’ve been cooking a lot at home, making things from scratch.

I personally seek a lot of inspiration to Italy. I have finally been able to keep a basil plant alive in my kitchen window now for a while, so there’s been basil pesto, I was lucky to get some Italian mozzarella, it didn’t last very long (not because it went bad; because we ate it all up!) and I have been making tomato sauce from scratch when we make pasta. And we make the pasta too. It’s simple, easy and delicious.

On our cooking agenda there’s also an attempt at doing focaccia bread, we haven’t done that yet.

I’m not trying to claim that we are experienced or good chefs or anything. We have always been inspired by the amazing food we had when we went to Italy - and now that we can not go anywhere, the internet is our friend. In my opinion, anyone, with the help of some nice recipes or videos, can cook amazing food at home.

If not, there’s also websites like Nonna Live where you can actually book live, online cooking classes with a real Italian nonna!

I will end this on the note that our thoughts are with the world. We are all in it together and maybe a virus can finally show us that, borders and nationalities don’t matter. One love!
